I was
commenting the other night to my wife that I look forward to the
time when our son is a little more, shall we say, interactive.
Yeah, that is a good way to put it. We are still in the lull after
the initial onslaught of, "There is a new tiny human in our house."
I'm sure any parent knows what I am talking about.
It really is
like that. You (...)

It is really
nice watching James learn to learn to talk. You know, just figuring
out that the tongue and the mouth and all the bits connected seem
to have more importance than just eating with. I didn't realize how
much fun this was going to be to see firsthand. There are times he
will just sit there and try to maneuver his tongue for, oh I don't
know, to see if it will fall out if he sticks it out to far? Who
knows what (...)

As any new
parent knows the sleeping habits of an infant can change from week
to week. When it really gets violent is when they vary wildly from
day to day. This is how things have been around the house here.
Just as my wife and I were commenting on how James had decided to
sleep through the night he decided to add a curve ball to the mix
and try to stay awake most of the day. Now, to say stay awake is a
bit of a misnomer. It (...)

It has been a
few days now since we got back to our home. It was a trip that took
four months to make. As we have been settling in and getting all
the things done that we thought we had time to do I keep trying to
get back into my old routine of sitting and writing. Instead, there
is always something needing attention. So I thought today I would
just add a little of what I was watching while we headed
North...

Leaving your
infant in the care of someone else is probably one of the hardest
things for new parents to do. I have heard it from many others and
even made fun of them when I was the one watching the baby for
them. I found out first hand though, it really is a lot harder to
do than I ever would have thought. Most of the time I would say
something like, "Just go out and have fun. We will be perfectly
fine here." Very easy to (...)

Good morning
everyone. Daddy and Mommy are pretty tired today, I was trying to
see how much I could stay awake. Everyone keeps telling me I am big
and big people get to stay up as much as they want to. So here I
am. Daddy is holding me up by the computer so I can talk to you but
now he is making snoring noises behind me. Luckily I can push my
feet against the table to hold him up in his chair.
pfffttt,
(...)

Spending the
afternoon lazy in bed. What a nice way to pass time. The light just
starting to get a little red tint to it. My wife feeding my son as
I wonder which one of them will doze first. A book in my hand
(well, the electronic equivalent) as I fought to keep my eyes
open.
Yeah,
Saturday afternoon with the family is a pretty nice place to be..

The last
couple of days have been fun. Of course by fun I mean some strange
otherworldly place that Dr. Seuss would truly appreciate. Instead
of oobleck there has been piles created by none other than The Kid.
Instead of the consistency of balanced feedings and sleeping there
has been a near psychotic swing from happy go lucky to let me
scream loud enough and wide enough that you can see what is in my
belly through my feeding (...)

I've always
wondered something about pediatricians and now each time James'
comes it strikes me even more, maybe because there is usually a
shot involved.
"Do they hear
their own children cry?"
I don't mean
are they incapable or hearing. Unless you poke out your
(...)
